Choosing the best tyres for your car

Choosing the correct tyres for your car is a minefield as there are so many different types to choose from and it depends on the general use of the vehicle and the weather conditions. Some would say that your tyres are the most important part of your car when considering your safety because If your tyres are worn, even if your car is serviced regularly and is reliable you could have major safety issues right beneath you.

If you are driving in the summer months your tyres need to be made of softer rubber compounds which come with a low tread profile. These may be called performance tyres but are not usually advisable for the often wet weather conditions in the UK. During the winter months it is advisable to choose a tyre that has deep treads to give you maximum grip in the bad winter weather when you may need to drive on icy roads.

As many people do not want to swap tyres frequently, a better choice is to have all season tyres which most new cars are fitted with as standard. These are extremely popular as they provide you with a balance of performance, grip and all-weather safety and reduce the need to change tyres for the different seasons.
