Disposing of car batteries

The number one reason for breakdown call outs in the UK is battery failure. This can be because the battery has been allowed to run flat, a cell or number of cells may have died in the battery, it is not getting enough charge to it through the alternator or that the connections to the battery have failed.

In some case a simple charge or replacement of leads may be required but other times you will need to replace the entire battery. Car battery prices range dependent on the quality, power and brand you wish to use.

When you have replaced your battery you have a legal requirement to dispose of the old one correctly as they cannot be emptied in to your usual household rubbish or recycling. If you have the battery replaced at a garage very often they will dispose of it for you although they may charge you to do this. Alternatively you can take it to a local Halfords or garage which will recycle it for you. Batteries cannot be emptied in to a land fill site without going through a strict cleaning process.
